Born on March 5th, 1928, Lucille lived life with the heart of an angel and the spirit of a fighter. Diagnosed with Tuberculosis in 1950 Lucille’s faith and sheer will helped her endure over three years spent in the intensive care of the Oak Forest Sanitarium part of a beginning Gundersen Hospital, under the care of Dr. Gundersen. Lucille would return home to raise two daughters, Bonnie (Rosemeyer) and Lynne (Teach), while farming with her husband Gerald.

Lucille and Gerald worked tirelessly together as they raised a herd of Holsteins and farmed the fertile landscape of their beloved Vernon county ridge farm. Lucille loved to tend to her lawn, raise her calves, and take in the beauty that comes with living on rural ridge. Days spent working the herd and the land led to time away together fishing the Mississippi in the summer, snowmobiling during the winter, and hunting excursions during the fall. During retirement the couple enjoyed the open road traveling the vast majority of Wisconsin’s countryside enjoying everything from the winding curves of the rivers to the vibrant fall colors of Northern Wisconsin. No matter the distance, regardless of the destination, they did it together for over 70 years.

Lucille’s love for her family was served up through her kitchen and secret family recipes. Her cookies, pancakes, French toast, and strawberry Jell-O with bananas and whip cream will forever be family favorites; however, her apple pies will never be duplicated. Lucille made apple pies like she treated her grandchildren. Strict when the recipe called for precise measured ingredients. Extra attention, when apple varieties were chosen. Sweet, when the sugar was added. Loving, when the table was set. And finally, generous, when the portions were served.

Blessed is the memory of Lucille McDaniel and the many family members, friends, and strangers that sat at her table.
