79 Elaine O. Bjerkos, Of Westby

Died October 29, 2005 Elaine O. Bjerkos, age 79 of Westby, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at the Norseland Nursing Home. Elaine was born December 9, 1925 to Oscar and Ella (Ottum) Olson. On June 1, 1946 she married Glen H. Bjerkos. He died September 8, 1980. Elaine worked at Norseland Nursing Home as a cook for 20 years and cooked the first meal for residents at Norseland. She was a member of Westby-Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She moved from her home on Coon Prairie Avenue to Norseland on February 14, 2005. She is survived by her six children, whom she raised and considered her pride and joy. They are: Larry (Debra) Bjerkos of LaCrosse, Robert (Caroline) Bjerkos of Westby, Scott (Teri) Bjerkos of Westby, Gail Bjerkos of Rochester, MN, Betty (Dan) Fagan of La Crosse, and Sara (Jay) Nickel of Wausau. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Shaun, Nicole, Katherine, Ryan, Brenda, Logan, Jade, Glena, Faith, Charity, Alexandra, and Kyle; four great-grandchildren: Riley, Nathaniel, Julie, and Kaitlyn; one sister, Muriel Skrede of Cashton; three sisters-in-law, Elverda Olson of Lakeland, FL, Arlene Holte of Coon Valley, and Gertrude Bjerkos of Westby; special friends, Dawn Tollackson and Beverly Simonson, both of Westby, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband Glen, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Orben Olson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Westby-Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 South Main (Hwy 14) Westby, or at the church on Thursday after 10:00 a.m. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
