FERRYVILLE Charles Otto Kohlhaas, age 73, formerly of Waukesha, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Franciscan Healthcare in LaCrosse, WI. Charles Otto Kohlhaas was born on April 2,1944 in Waukesha, Wisconsin to Otto and Hazel (Zeitlow) Kohlhaas. He grew up in Waukesha and graduated from Waukesha High School in 1962 before attending the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. Charles worked at various jobs while in Waukesha; Waukesha Motor Works, Amron, and Wolfe Construction in Dousman WI. After moving to Ferryville, he worked at Cabelas for a short time before retiring in 2001. Charles loved nature, and enjoyed squirrel, grouse, duck, deer and turkey hunting. He also enjoyed fishing year-round. He was an avid reader, especially anything to do with nature, hunting, geography or history. Charles was a Wisconsin Badger and Green Bay Packer fan as well. On September 15th of 1990, Charles Otto Kohlhaas and Joan Anderson (nee McNamara) were joined in matrimony. Together they shared 27 years of marriage. Charles is survived by; his wife Joan,his sister Caroline Wieman, nieces Sarah (Peter) Anderson and Mary Wieman, great niece Abigail and great nephew Owen Anderson. He is also survived by; stepsons Robert (Amy) Anderson and Marcus (Jodi) Anderson, and step-grandchildren Mara (Cody) Fritz, Emily, Luke, Liam and Graham Anderson. Also, sisters-in-law Patsy (Don) McGuire, Rita Crowley, and MaryAnn Mellem as well as several nieces and nephews still survive. In addition to his parents, Otto and Hazel Kohlhaas and in-laws Joseph and Mary Ellen McNamara, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter Lauri Anderson, and brothers-in-law Charles Wieman and John Crowley. A special thanks, to Mayo Clinic Franciscan Health Care ICU Department in LaCrosse for their excellent care of Charles. God bless our memory of Charles, as he will be deeply missed. Funeral Services for Charles Otto Kohlhaas will be 11:00 A.M. on Friday October 20, 2017 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Pastor Jim Aniol of the United Methodist Church Driftless Regional Ministry will officiate. Friends may call during a Visitation one-hour before the service from 10:00 11:00 at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers or plants memorials may be directed to: Ducks Unlimited, the Wild Turkey Federation, the National Wildlife Federation, the Ocooch Mountain Rescue Squad or St. Josephs Indian School.
