Doris Sime

Doris Sime, 87, of Viola, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Doris Marie (Jacobson) Sime Doris Sime passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 20th, 2016 at the Bland Bekkedal Hospice Center surrounded by her family. She was born at home on North Buck Creek Ridge, rural Ferryville, WI in Crawford County on September 26, 1928 to Henry and Angie (Prindle) Jacobson. She was the youngest of her family. She attended country schools and for two weeks Norwegian (parochial) School where her report card listed her deportment at 97. She graduated from Westby High School in 1945 and Vernon County Normal in 1947. She taught seven years in rural Vernon county schools and worked a number of years as a substitute teacher and aide at Viola Elementary School. She was married to Raymond Sime, Jr. on a dusty Tuesday evening, August 21, 1951 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby by Rev. Jordan O. Paulsrud with attendants Louella Clark Holthaus, Lenore Jacobson Widner and Harlan Jacobson. She resided in Viola since that time for over 60 years at the same location on Wisconsin Street. She was a member of the Viola United Methodist Womens group and its Sarah Circle which she enjoyed for many years. She also helped Darlene Johannesen with the Viola Food Pantry at its beginning and continuing for seven years. She worked as a member of the Election Board for many years. She also worked with Ray growing ginseng. Survivors include Ray, her husband of 64 years; daughters Lynn Elizabeth (Wayne) Zeller of rural Viroqua, and Heidi Rae Sime (Todd Hunter) of Boulder, CO; beloved grandchildren Ben (Nina) Martin, Lauren Martin (Adam Peters) and Nick Martin and great grandsons Jacob Andrew and James Alexander Martin; aunt Bertha Humm of LaCrosse, sister-in-law Mary Ann Gochenaur and family, close nieces and nephews, cousins from the Jacobson family, good friends and neighbors, and the church community. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Garold Jacobson in 1999 and Harlan Jacobson in 2009, nephews Robert Jacobson and Ryan Jacobson, and her good canine friend Rowan. And as her grandchildren would say - "Bless your heart" Funeral Services will be held Monday January 25, 2016 at the Viola United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Larry Stegall will officiate. Burial will follow at the Viola Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday January 24, 2016 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at the Vosseteig Funeral Homes Henthorn Memorial Center in Viola. They may also call at the church from 10 a.m. till the time of service at 11. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be directed to the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care or to the charity of the donors choice.
