Gordon Sisbach, 85 of Viroqua, died Monday, June 9, 2014 Gordon Ernest Sisbach, 85, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua with his family by his side. He was born June 5, 1929 in Viroqua, Wis. to Ernest & Aleda (Vaage) Sisbach. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1947. Gordon served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was discharged on December 26, 1952. On June 24, 1953 he was united in marriage to Phyllis L. Mellen. Gordon worked at the Viroqua Creamery for 17 years and then was employed as a press operator and inspector at Nelson Muffler for 20 years until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Gordon had a passion for fishing. He enjoyed fishing locally for panfish and made several trips to the Oregon coast to fish for Chinook salmon. Family get togethers were always special to him and his family; especially when he was frying catfish or firing up the grill. He was an excellent carpenter and enjoyed using his skills as the family handyman. He was a member of the Running-Johnson-Ray VFW Post 3032 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter WI 37. He is survived by the love of his life, Phyllis, of 60 years; four children; DeVerne (Dorlynn) Sisbach of Estacada, OR, David (Kimberly) Sisbach of Prairie du Sac, WI, Douglas (Brenda) Sisbach of Viroqua, WI, and Denise (Jeff) Lockington of DeSoto, WI; grandchildren: Andr Sisbach (Heather), Tawny Schmeer, Caleb Sisbach, Jessica Bjornstad (Chad), Angela Geier (Luke), Matthew Sisbach, Bethany Dickman (Jamie), Nicholas Dickman (Miriah), Morgan Dickman, Ryan Lockington (Heather) and Austin Lockington; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Hope Sisbach and Darlene Sisbach; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Leonard and Orland Sisbach. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The Rev. Margaret Eiben-Hoversten will officiate with burial to follow in the Viroqua Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the United States Army Honors Team and VFW Post 3032. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St., (Hwy 56) in Viroqua and at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Friday. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Viroqua Food Pantry, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to the donors charity of choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
