Harlan William Parr, 84 of Rising Sun, died on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem. Harlan William Parr, 84 of Rising Sun, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Lakeview Health Center in West Salem where he had been a resident since February 2013. He was born on October 1, 1929 to Edmund and Pearl (Pederson) Parr. On July 19, 1952 he married the love of his life Doris Broadhead. They just recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary. Harlan was a life long dairy and hog farmer. He took pride in working the land and providing for his family. After "retirement" he worked at Koon Kreek Feeds where he proudly held the title of "The Mol Mix Man". He loved hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He enjoyed playing dartball for North Prairie Church. He loved attending anything that his grandchildren were in and was so very proud of each of them. Harlan served on the Richland County Equity Board, Cenex, and Farmers Union Board. Harlan was blessed with dear friends and neighbors: Danny, Robin, Matt, Adam, and Jacob Connelly; Gordon and Joanne Dach; and Mike and Shirley Mahan who were always a phone call away. Harlan is survived by: his beloved wife Doris of Rising Sun; four daughters: Jacquie (David Haupt) of Fairmont, MN; Mary Mayberry of Rising Sun; Julie (Wayne) Kruizenga of Viroqua; and Janet (Jimmy) Kaiser of Middle Ridge; his grandchildren: Grace (Nick) Gonzalez of Alaska; Cale (Tonya) Hanson of Fairmont, MN; Jeremy (Ursa) Mayberry of California; Ryan Haugen of Sosa City, Japan; Rachel (Robert) Korish of Colorado; Erin (Paul) Crilly of Milwaukee; Niesha (Lawrence) Conley of Tacoma; and Kyle Kruizenga of Viroqua; seven great grandchildren: Macenzie; Nico; Annika; Asha; Lexi; Paige; and Carley; three brothers: Donnie (Helen) Parr; Gaylerd Parr; and Duane Parr; two sisters: Gloria (Jerry) Kilmer and Cheryl (Bill) Jenkins; In-laws: George and LuAnn Broadhead; Darrel Broadhead; and Jim (Liz) Broadhead, and Irene Horkheimer; many nieces and nephews; and his "Adopted Sons": Scott, Mike, and Donnie Tower, who spent many summers helping on the Parr farm. He was preceded in death by his parents: Edmund and Pearl; two sisters-in-law: Audrey and Dorothy Parr; two nephews: Marlan Parr and Michael Kilmer; In-laws: Ken and Joyce Broadhead and their brother Don Broadhead, and sister-in-law Arlene Bolstad. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at North West Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Stephanie Steiner will officiate with burial to follow in Walnut Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua, 123 W. Decker (Highway 56). Friends may also call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11. The family would like to thank Lakeview Health Center for taking such wonderful care of Harlan.
