Irene Christianson, age 94 of Viroqua, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Irene Christianson, age 94 of Viroqua, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Irene was born in Viroqua on August 10, 1917 to Oscar and Carrie (Haugen) Selin. On February 19, 1938 she was united in marriage to Hartwick C. Christianson. Together, they farmed in the Viroqua area for many years. Irene also spent many years working at Hillcrest Greenhouse. Irene enjoyed her family, especially being entertained by her many grandchildren. Her favorite activities included embroidery, reading and gardening. Irene had a heart of gold and will be missed by all. She is survived by her children Harlan (Nancy) Christianson, Alan (Judy) Christianson, Linda Sanwick, Michael (Lana) Christianson, Kathryn (John) Miller, Steven Christianson; grandchildren Roxanne Christianson, Michelle Christianson, Renee (Eric) Baker, Kevin Sanwick, Kimberly (Paul) Burns, Christopher (Sara) Sanwick, Aimee (Mike) Yunto, Kristi (Tom) Schwanebeck, Meghan (Stephen) Artemis, Heather (Nicholas) Mastrangelo, Caitlin (Phillip) Cochran; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother Cameron (Peggy) Selin; and sister-in-law Francis Selin and Helen Christianson. She was preceded in death by her husband Hartwick; son-in-law Dick Sanwick; siblings Orvi in infancy, Lydia (Andrew) Peterson, Oral Selin, Carol (Gerhard) Sorenson, Willis Selin, Myrtle (Cecil) Kellogg, Borge (Ruth) Selin, Alvin (Borghild) Selin, Leilah (Thurman) Brothen, and Maylon Selin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Viroqua United Methodist Church. Reverend Ethan Larson will officiate with burial in Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 11. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
