Joseph Menne

Joseph Menne, 79, of Viroqua, died Thursday, September 22, 2016. He was born on December 9, 1936 in Calmar, IA to Bernard and Irene (Wieling) Menne. Joe attended school in Ossian, IA before joining the Army in the late 50s and served a tour of duty in the Korean War. He met and married Rita Hageman on July 25, 1959 and they were married for 57 years. He started farming after the service in Iowa then moved to the Viroqua area in 1976 where he continued to farm. Joe enjoyed Oliver tractors. He was in the cattle trucking business for the last 24 years. He left this world doing what he enjoyed most. He is survived by his wife, Rita; two sons: Jim (Terri) Menne, and Rob (Tammy) Menne; five grandchildren: Dr. Ashley Menne, Zach Menne (Ulrike), Chelsea (Andy) Pettis, Jacob Menne (Murilla), Jessica (Jake) McCullick; six great grandchildren: Jocelyn, Jackson, Casen, Hayli, Jace, and Luca; as well as many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Tony; and a sister, Joan. He will be missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016 at St. Marys Catholic Church, Viroqua, with Fr. Joseph Maria Arokiam officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-4 pm on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home (123 W Decker, Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call on at the Church on Monday from 10am till the time of service at 11. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice or to Vernon Memorial Hospice.
