VIROQUA Nora V. Weltzin, age 94, died Tuesday June 27, 2017. Nora Virginia Kjesbu Weltzin was born on October 26, 1922 near Mossyrock, Washington. Her parents were Niel and Ollie Kjesbu and Nora was the oldest of four children along with Alice, Arnold, and Norman. Noras family attended a Community Church in Mossyrock since there wasnt a Lutheran church in their community. In the meantime, their father taught the Lutheran Catechism at home. Were not sure about her baptism; however,Nora confirmed her faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winlock, WA. Their family was musical and enjoyed singing together while Ollie listened; Nora also enjoyed playing the violin. Nora enjoyed being outside picking berries and skunk cabbage; using horses to work in the fields with her father, gardening, walking to school, etc. During high school, Nora and her sister, Alice, would teach Vacation Bible School (VBS) and Sunday School at their Community Church. After graduating from Mossyrock High School, Nora attended Pacific Lutheran College in Parkland, WA. She then accepted a job teaching 2nd Grade in Puyallup, WA. During the summer before teaching, Nora was invited by her uncle to teach VBS for Mouse River Lutheran Church in ND. The pastor of the church was H. Alfred Weltzin who also had 4 other churches west of Bottineau, ND. Nora ended up staying longer to help out in the dining hall at a Bible Camp where Alfred and his brother Ted were in charge of the camp bookstore. She and Alfred were married on June 28, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland across from Pacific Lutheran College and lived in Landa, ND where Marcia and Karen were born. Then Alfred accepted a call to rural Ottawa, IL in 1950. They served two rural churches, Freedom and St. Petri for 17 years. Three more children were born: Stanley, Marie, and Neal. In 1967, the family moved to Viroqua, WI to serve 3 rural churches: North West Prairie, South West Prairie, and Bad Axe. Nora was Alfreds partner in the ministry serving as his secretary, was a speaker for various functions/meetings; was a Bible Study leader; taught Sunday School/VBS; was involved in various capacities for Womens organizations; sang in choirs/duets with Alfred/family singing; played piano and violin, and did some substitute teaching. Nora will be remembered for being an early riser, enjoying gardening and flowers, being a good cook, having great hospitality, making crafts and sewing, being a faithful letter writer, keeping a clean house, was always doing something for others, enjoyed the West Prairie Country Store ladies coffee group, and was a fervent prayer warrior. Her smile and twinkle in her eye will be missed. Nora entered her Heavenly Home on June 27th, 2017. She is survived by her five children: Marcia (Erik) Kjesbu of Tumwater, WA; Karen (Roger) Swenson of Viroqua, WI; Stanley and Marie of Viroqua; and Neal (Dorene) Weltzin of Trego, WI; and four grandsons: Mark Swenson, Benjamin (Brittany) Weltzin, Nathan (Casey) Weltzin, and Micah Weltzin; her sister, Alice Torvend of Tacoma, WA, along with a number of nieces and nephews spread across the country.
