Raymond G. Anderson

Raymond G. Anderson, 84, of Galesville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 8th, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 12, 1935, to Guy and Ruth (Hammer) Anderson of Galesville. He married Marilyn R. Thomas on February 2, 1957, and together they raised four children. Ray was a life-long resident of Galesville and very active and well-respected in the community. He spent his childhood working in the family's Hammer and Enghagen Store. After graduating from UW-Madison, his first job was working as an examiner for the USDA. On April 1st, 1959, he began his career with the Bank of Galesville and retired as Vice-President after 30 years. He continued to serve on the Bank's Board of Directors and resigned on May 31, 2020, proudly completing 61 years of service. After retirement, Ray spent a few summers spraying lakes for weed control throughout the state of Wisconsin. He also worked for Dairyland Power until finally deciding to fully retire. Ray proudly earned the designation of Eagle Scout and remained an advisor with the Boy Scouts for many years. He was a 37-year member of the Galesville Volunteer Fire Department, a 20-year member of the City Council, member of the Galesville Industrial Development Corporation, served on various boards of the Galesville Nursing Home, Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville Library Board, Pine Cliff Cemetery Board, Lake District and Galesville Lion's Club. Ray's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time up north at the cabin. He was always up for a good game of euchre. He is survived by his daughters: Lyn (Paul) Halderson and Lisa (Jerry) Collins of Galesville; his sons: Tom (Laurie) of Fall Creek, and Tim (Amy) of Trempealeau. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Joel, Amy (Tom), Ted (Ruth); Kelly (Al), Chris (Jess); Emily (fiance Matt), Matt; Sara (Luke) and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Ben Johnson of Washington; sisters-in-law: Kay (David) Vosseteig of Westby, Dorothy Trachte of St. Joseph, Michigan and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years; his parents; his sister Mary; sister-in-law Janet Quinn and brother-in-law David Trachte. To honor Ray's wishes and due to Covid-19 concerns, private family graveside services were held. Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby assisted the family with arrangements.
