Rick Olson

Ricky Lee Olson, 61, of Viroqua, WI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Vernon Memorial Hospital. Rick was born on July 24th, 1953 to the late Loretta (Olson) Volden. In 1956 Loretta married Joel Volden, Joel welcomed Rick as his son and the family continued to grow. Rick graduated from Westby High School in 1971 and furthered his education at Western Technical College in La Crosse, WI for auto mechanics. On July 13th, 1985 Rick and Sharon Johnson were united in marriage at Westby Coon Prairie Church in Westby, WI. Rick worked at Nelson Global Products (Nelson Muffler) for the past 40 plus years. When he wasnt working he was often found being 'Mr. fix it' helping anyone and everyone he could. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going out for breakfast with friends and spending time with his family most recently his granddaughter Ellie and he will never forget about his best buddy William Fortun. Rick is survived by his wife, Sharon (Shari); his two children: Branigan (Chase) Sanwick and BJ Olson; along with one granddaughter, Eleanore Sanwick; his father, Joel Volden; four brothers: Brian (Linda) Volden, Randy (Lisa) Volden, Mike (Rhonda) Volden, Kevin (Diane) Volden; five sisters: Linda Turner, Pam (Steve) Greenwood, Carol (Mike) Fish, Lori (Scott) Elmore and Lisa (Mark) Tulley; special family friend, Keith Hase; sisters-in-law: Cathy Altmann and Roxanne (Jim) Christenson; brother-in law, Randy (Shanon) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Loretta Volden; his mother-in-law, Matilda Fortun; sister-in-law, Debbie Volden; and brothers-in-law, Cory Fortun and Gert Altmann. Rick was known by most and loved by many. He will be greatly missed but his story will live on through the lives of his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Viroqua. Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen will officiate with burial to follow in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker St., (Highway 56) in Viroqua and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
