Rickey Lee Johnson, 62 of Chaseburg, died on Wednesday November 17 2010. Rickey Lee Johnson 62 passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday November 17 2010. Rickey's family was at his side when he passed at Gundersen Lutheran hospital in LaCrosse. Rickey was born in Viroqua on March 21, 1948 to Lincoln and Patricia (Sletten) Johnson. Rickey proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On August 25, 1973 he was united in marriage to Mary Turben. Rickey and his family lived for many years in DeSoto before moving to the Chaseburg area. Rickey retired after 35 years from Dairyland Power where he worked as an operator and repairman. Rickey had long and meaningful friendships with Paul Mason, Buck Oliver , Nolan Everson and many others Many hours of his pass time was spent on the Mississippi River fishing , he fished with his son Eric, Linden Myer and Gary Schaller. Rickey's greatest joys were catching big wall- eye, and hunting for pheasant and grouse. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan. His hobbies were enjoyed ,watching trains and collecting arrowheads, which he had done since the age of 5. Rickey is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary; sons Matthew Johnson of La Crosse and Eric Johnson of Chaseburg; grandchildren Keagen and Dakota Johnson; brothers Lyder (Simone) Johnson of Florida, Terry (Marlene) Johnson of Florida, Dennis (Cindy) Johnson of Tennessee; mother and father-in-law Gilbert and Peggy (Swiggum) Turben; many brothers and sisters-in-laws; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Rickey will be missed deeply by his family and friends. Private family services were held Saturday at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby with military honors provided by the United States Army. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
