Skyler Whitney Mickelson, age 26 of Coon Valley and formerly of Cashton, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 . Skyler W. Mickelson, age 26, of Cashton died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 as the result of a car accident. He was born December 30, 1986 in La Crosse, WI to Daniel and Laura Mickelson (Rogers). He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cashton. Skyler attended Cashton, Westby, and Cornerstone Christian Academy and graduated from the Challenge Academy in 2004. He was in the U.S. Army for one and a half years. He married Crystal Torres in North Carolina at Ft. Bragg, the chapel on base. They later divorced. Skyler loved playing frizbee, fishing, animals, children, and writing poetry. He was a faithful loyal friend. He had a bigger than life personality and an infectious smile. The times shared with his daughter meant the most to him, they had so much fun together, just two kids laughing and playing. Survivors include his mother, Laura Severson and David Severson of Pine Island, MN; his father, Dan Mickelson and Diana of Cashton; sister, Danielle (Mickelson) Schreier and Esden Schreier; nephew, Brody of Pine Island, MN; daughter, Aubrey Mickelson of Flower Mound, Texas; step-brother, Brandon Cragle of Tomah, WI (Destiny, Harmony & Melody); his maternal grandparents, Bill and Nancy Rogers of Coon Valley; step-grandmother Arlene Severson of Cashton; great- grandmother, Lois Frahm of San Diego, CA; special friend, Bobbi Sue Harris; special friend and mentor, John Hemmersbach; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elaine and Norman Mickelson; maternal grandparents, Linda and William Rogers and Kenneth Frahm, Sr.; paternal step-grandfather, Howard Severson; special aunt, Angel (Rogers) Olson; nephew, Zachary Stach. Quoting Skyler, "The greatest tragedy is not death but instead it is a life without a purpose". Funeral services are open for everyone to attend and will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Cashton, with Pastor Dana Jackson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday after 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at a later date in the Coon Valley Cemetery with Pastor Mitzi Miamoto officiating. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred. Online condolences may be offered at www.vossfh.com The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
