Vernal W. Bjornstad, age 77 of Cashton, died peacefully at home with his family at his bedside on Friday, January 27, 2006. Vernal was born to Bennett and Lilah (Hall) Bjornstad on January 27, 1929 in LaCrosse. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and Confirmed at and a member of North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, both of Cashton. He attended Woodard and Cashton schools. On January 16, 1948 he purchased a milk route and continued to haul milk to the Westby Creamery for 53 years. He farmed for some years and also did custom work. He married Carol Elaine Bergh on July 31, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cashton, and raised four children who have fond memories of their hardworking dad who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Vernal enjoyed dartball and antique tractors and playing cards. Vernal is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Jolene Wieman of Sparta and her two daughters, Amy and her son Christian of Sparta, and Wendy of Onalaska, Nan (Wayne) Lowell and their children Chris and Jonny of Irvine, Calfornia; two sons: Jeff (Donna) Bjornstad of Westby and their children, Jeremy (Kelly) and son Judson of Texas, Justin and Janessa of Westby, David (Karri) Bjornstad and their children, Cole and Karissa of Onalaska; two brothers, Jerome (Beverly) Bjornstad and Jennings (Lois) Bjornstad; brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Vernie, brother Gerald and parents, Bennett and Lilah (Hall) Bjornstad. The visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. The funeral service for Vernal will be on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor John Stennes-Spidahl will officiate with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday after 12:00 noon. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
