William Anthony Van Der Molen

November 25, 1931 — March 30, 2022

William Anthony Van Der Molen, age 90, of Soldiers Grove passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. That "-" holds such a beautiful story and we will try to touch base on a few chapters here. A true patriotic family man that will be dearly missed by many family members, friends, and neighbors that grew into great friends over many, many years in this peaceful valley. Bill was born in Elmhurst, IL. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War. His love of airplanes was encouraged by his older brother Bob. Together, they purchased and rebuilt a Taylorcraft airplane in the basement of his parent's home. A story which brought laughter to anyone who heard it. Much like any of the memories he would share with us. He was a gifted storyteller. Coming out of the service, he started a career flying as a pilot for Eastern Airlines. He flew with them for 32 years. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Antonio and Herman Van Der Molen; his two sisters, Florence and Eleanor; brother, Robert; son, William; and grandson, Matthew. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Margaret; children: Robert (Chris), Baron (Dawn), Laura (Tony), Mindy (Josh), and Tamara; daughter-in-law, Maureen; and many beloved grandchildren, family, and friends. Dad - thank you for being the patriarch of this amazing family we have. Thank you for being an inspiration and example to us all. Thank you for standing strong in your beliefs and always fighting for what you love. We will keep your memory and legacy alive. Our Captain is taking his final flight home. We love you. Dutch Proverb: "The strength of a tree lies in its roots-not in its branches." As per Bill's request there will be no wake or public funeral. He will be honored during a celebration of life later in the year. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for Shriners Children's Hospital or donations towards a scholarship fund for Richland Center High School that can be made at Richland County Bank. Vosseteig Funeral Home & Crematory in Gays Mills is serving Bill's family. 325 Sunset Ridge Avenue Gays Mills, WI 54631 (608) 735-2100
