Agnes "Aggie" Schroeder, 91 of Viroqua, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Agnes "Aggie" Schroeder, 91 of Viroqua, died peacefully with her family Wednesday morning October 14, 2009. She was born in the town of Christiana to Oscar and Amalia (Oium) Homstad on February 14, 1918. She was baptized at North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and Confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. She attended Chaseburg grade school and graduated from LaCrosse Central High School. She was a graduate of Vernon County Normal School and attended LaCrosse Teachers College. She taught for five years in rural schools of Vernon County until her marriage. She was united in marriage to Cleo Schroeder on May 20, 1942 in the parsonage of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Chaseburg. During World War II, she was a caseworker for the Vernon County Pension Department. In 1948, she became a partner with her sister, Irene Homstad, in establishing and operating Irene & Aggies Jack & Jill Shop until her retirement in 1977. Aggie was an active member of Viroqua English Lutheran Church, having served as Sunday School Teacher and held several offices in the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Vernon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by three sons, Michael (Steve Eagleson) of Phoenix, Arizona, Robert (Theresa) of Viroqua, William of Tucson, Arizona; and one daughter, Kathryn "Katie" (Steve Getter) of Readstown; two grandsons, Geoffrey of Iowa City, Iowa, Jonathan of Denver, Colorado; five granddaughters, Amalia (Nate) Buros of Viroqua, Jennifer (Keith) Styles of Volo, Illinois, Mia (Jeff) Peterson of Cashton, Kara Gardner of Viroqua, and Naomi Schroeder of Viroqua; four great grandchildren; Deven Gabrielson and Mai Peterson of Cashton, Lauren and Tyler Buros of Viroqua; one brother William (Alice) Homstad of LaCrosse; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews; dear friend and care giver Evelyn Bay; and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo on June 21, 1996; her parents; brothers: Milnor and Robert; sisters: Irene Homstad and Doris Power; sister in law Katherine White; and daughter in law Christine Schroeder. Funeral Services will be held at Viroqua English Lutheran Church at 747 North East Avenue on Tuesday October 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Berg and Pastor Jonathan Semro officiating. Burial will be in the Viroqua Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby on Monday October 19, 2009 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor John Berg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Building Fund of English Lutheran Church, English Lutheran Ladies Aid, or the English Lutheran School.
