Agnes O. Thompson-Morkrid, age 98, passed away Monday June 20, 2016 at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. Agnes was born August 23, 1917 to Harvey and Erma (Osborne) Fish in Viroqua. She was baptized at Bad Axe Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Viroqua United Methodist Church where she enjoyed listening to the Sunday services on the radio. She was united in marriage to Gerald Thompson and later divorced. Agnes then married Martin Morkrid. Agnes lived most of her years in Vernon County, except for a few years when she lived in Madison. While in Madison she worked for Rennebohm Drug Store and also ran her own in-house day-care. She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine "Gerri" Steely of Round Rock, TX, and Linda (Dennis) Davidson of Madison, WI. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Jamie (Mark) Mathison of Sun Prairie, WI and Heidi (Eddie) Berebitsky of Milton, WI; and grandsons: Jeff Davidson of Westby, Matthew (Amy) Thompson of Arbor Vitae, WI, Adam Hilgendorf of Portage and Michael Hilgendorf of Madison. Surviving also are nine great-grandchildren, Miranda Ritcher, Louis, Abigail, and Samantha Berebitsky and Hannah and Jared Mathison and Marilyn Karen, Maxwell and Taylor Thompson; as well as one great-great-grandson, Carson Ritcher. She is further survived by one brother, Dale Fish of La Farge; a son-in-law, Duane Hilgendorf of Madison; brother-in-law, Bill Pace and five step daughters: Gloria McCarter, Karen (Theodore) Larson, Shirley (Robert) Kelsey, Diane (Bill) Brose and Joan (the late Earl) Morkrid; many step-grand, great and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Marilyn Thompson and Ida Hilgendorf; one granddaughter, Sherry Arlene Davidson; her husband, Martin Morkrid, four sisters, Merle (Guy) Primmer, Fern (Martin) Morkrid, Dorothy (Ernest) Ekum and Rae Hope Pace; as well as two brothers, Norman (Geneva) and Clinton Fish; sister-in-law, Mary Fish; and two step-sons, Earl and Kenneth Morkrid. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caring staff at Vernon Manor for the love and compassion shown towards Agnes and her family. Also much thanks to Dr. Radcliffe, Dr. Feltes and Dr. Bassett of the Gundersen Clinic for their wonderful care. Thanks also goes out to Marsha Hall and Bonnie Tobey of Vernon Memorial Hospice for their comforting words and support. Agnes will be sadly missed by her family. Funeral Services for Agnes will be Friday, June 24, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home. Pastor Eileen Kuehnl of the United Methodist Church of La Farge will officiate with burial immediately following the service at the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call during a visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM before the service Friday at the funeral home at 123 W. Decker Street in Viroqua. In Lieu of flowers or plants memorials may be directed to Vernon Manor Activity, Vernon Memorial Hospice or the Viroqua United Methodist Church.
