Alan Leonard Larson, 75, of rural Westby, Wisconsin, passed peacefully on June 5, 2025, following a brave fight against cancer, leaving a legacy of courage and strength. Alan, born September 8, 1949, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, was the cherished son of the late Leonard and Bernice (Yaeger) Larson and loving husband of 32 years to Kim (Martin) Larson. His journey through life was exemplified by laughter, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones.

After graduating from Logan High School in 1967, Alan enlisted to serve his country in the Vietnam War, where he rose to the rank of Army Sergeant. His bravery in the line of duty was recognized with three Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Upon honorably returning home, Alan married Bonnie (Miller) Guenther in 1971, and they welcomed their daughter, Kari, in 1972. Following their divorce, he married Kim on August 1, 1992. Alan dedicated 36 years to his work as a machinist at Trane Company, where his reliability and work ethic were as steadfast as his character. He spent most of his life in rural Wisconsin in the countryside that brought him immense peace and joy. Alan’s military service was recently celebrated with a Freedom Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., which was an extraordinarily special experience for him to share with his daughter.

Those who knew Alan can attest that he was the embodiment of humor, always ready with a witty joke that was sure to brighten anyone's day or leave people scratching their heads in wonder. He was kind and thoughtful, always considering the needs and feelings of others before his own. Alan was a deep thinker who challenged others to broaden their beliefs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, difficult crossword puzzles, cutting wood, caring for his pets, working on projects on his property or with his neighbors, helping friends within the Amish community, and especially sharing laughs and spending time with his wife, friends, neighbors, and family. He truly loved being at home, but if you could convince him to venture out, he enjoyed the adventure and was frequently the life of the party. One of his greatest joys was visiting his grandchildren in Arizona, and despite the miles between them, their bonds are forever strong and enduring.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dennis Larson; and his nephew, Randy Gensch.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Kim (Martin) Larson; his devoted daughter, Kari (Larson) Poulin of Mesa, AZ; son-in-law, Steve Poulin; his treasured grandchildren, Seth and Avery Poulin; his sister, Beverly Larson of Westby; his niece, Laura (Gensch) Jessie of West Salem; and nephew, Kael Brandt of Holmen.

Alan’s family wishes to thank the medical and hospice staff who provided gentle care. A heartfelt thank you to the countless friends who called or visited him in his final days. He felt your love and appreciated the comfort that you provided. His stories, his laughter, and his generous spirit will continue as beautiful memories to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

To honor his wishes and ever humble nature, there will not be a formal memorial service. Alan preferred that he be remembered in your heart and in your own special way. We encourage you to raise a glass in his honor and continue to keep his memory active. His legacy will live on in the stories shared, the laughter he inspired, and the gentle kindness he showed to everyone he loved. He will be cherished deeply, intensely missed, and loved forever.
