Albert Widner

Albert Harold Widner, age 87, died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin. He was born February 3, 1920 in the Town of Webster to Otto and Carrie (Lokiken) Widner. He served in the Army Air Force in WWII and saw service in Africa, Italy and England. He was crew chief on an airborne personnel carrier. He married Alice Raiten, a widow with four children, on March 6, 1952. Upon returning home from the service he owned and operated a dairy farm in Webster Township until his retirement. Albert pursued his interest in flying by purchasing a wrecked airplane and restoring it to flight status. He had additional planes, one of which he traded in on a new diesel Mercedes. He flew out of the Viroqua Airport. He loved boating, fishing, working in his shop and flying his airplanes. Albert is survived by his wife, Alice; four children: Betty Schmidt of West Salem, WI; Helen (Walter) Safford of St. Germaine, WI; Kenneth (Jean) Widner of South Beloit, IL; and LaVerne (Mary Faye) Widner of Crowley, LA. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren; two brothers: Ralph (Avanelle) of Westby, WI and Raymond (Edith) of Rapid City, SD. He was preceded death by his parents; a sister, Nellie (Francis) Klein; two brothers: Marvin (Alice) and Lawrence (Zenneth), and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 27, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S Main (Hwy 14) in Westby, WI. The Reverend Steven Fossum will officiate. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
