Alberta Chellevold Couey, 90, of Richland Center and formerly of Gays Mills, died Monday, March 12, 2018. Alberta A. Chellevold-Couey, age 90, passed away on March 12, 2018 at Sannes Skogdalen Heim Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove, Wi. Alberta was born on March 19, 1927 in the Gays Mills area, the daughter of Pearl and Florence (Larsen) Bacon. She was united in marriage to Marvin Chellevold on June 27, 1946 in Viroqua and together they had four children. After Marvins passing, she married Bernard Couey of Richland Center. Alberta was dedicated to her family and friends. She helped Marvin operate the Kickapoo Locker in Gays Mills from 1945 to 1985 while raising their four children. She continued to help her son Jim with the locker when he took over the business in 1985. After retiring from the locker, Alberta enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends and family. She loved to have company visit, always sharing great stories. She was a great cook- making delicious pancakes, fried chicken, cinnamon rolls and oxtail soup. A proud Norwegian who enjoyed lutefisk and lefse, she was an active member of Luther Memorial Church in Gays Mills. Alberta is survived by her four children: James (Sharon) Chellevold of Gays Mills, Barbara (James) Hines of Gays Mills, Dale (Kathy) Chellevold of Dodgeville and Lois (Gary) Bodendein of Reedsburg; grandchildren: James (Chanda) Chellevold, Jennifer Chellevold (friend-Joe), Karen (Jeff) Fisher, Lori (Lance) Meudt, Siri (Dan) Mikkelson, Ingrid (Matthew) Fry, Ryan Bodendein, Desiree (Mark) Schlangen, Denise (Al) Schumann and nine great-grandchildren. Also her second husband, Bernard Couey of Richland Center and his children: William Couey (friend-Lynette), Michael (Stacy) Couey, Bonita (Robert) Haynes, and Margaret Hyatt; and four step grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Chellevold, brother Myron Bacon and step-son-in-law, Thomas Hyatt. Blessed be our memory of Alberta A. Chellevold-Couey. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Gays Mills. Pastor Carrie Anderson will officiate with burial in the Gays Mills Cemetery. Friends may call for a visitation on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, (Hwy 131 and Sunset Ridge) in Gays Mills. Friends may also call at the church on Friday one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be offered at www.VossFH.com.
