Alene Rognstad, of Westby died Monday, September 13, 2010 Alene Rognstad, of Westby died Monday, September 13, 2010 in her home. She was born January 29, 1934 in Viroqua to Cyril and Ruth (Pederson) Harris, rural Genoa, Wisconsin. She graduated from Viroqua High School in 1951 and married Odell Rognstad August 16, 1952. They were married for 51 years until Odell passed away March 18, 2003. They had 4 children: Vickie (Norm) Hurlburt of Black River Falls, Janet (Kevin) Boote of Hull, Iowa, Rick (Robin) of Westby, and Ryan (and special friend Merle Thompson) of Black River Falls. She worked at Westby Creamery and Dean Foods, was the state milk inspector, did home health care, and most recently was a real estate agent for Westby Realty for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where she was active in WMF, Sunday School, and Awana, which was very dear to her heart. She loved working with people and very much enjoyed volunteering at the Buttik and participating in Norseland Auxiliary and Sons of Norway. She loved and appreciated her extended family and the many close friends that she was blessed to have, but her joy in life was her Lord, her children and her grandchildren. Her grandchildren include, Nicholas Hurlburt of Chiang Mai, Thailand, Chelsea Hurlburt of Yangon, Burma, Jenna (Jonathan) Kuik of Pasadena, California, Dallas Boote of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Samantha Rognstad of Westby, and Joe Helmuth of Douglas, Wyoming, her 'adopted' grandson. She is also survived by two brothers, Cy (Jeanette) Harris of Genoa, Roger (Donna) Harris of Viroqua, and one sister, Betty (Lavern) Kilmer of Viroqua. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Larry and Conrad Harris, and two nephews, Tony and Todd Harris.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church. Pastor Adam Berge will officiate with burial to follow. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Main, in Westby and also at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may made to Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church, Bethel Butikk, or Gundersen Lutheran Hospice. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
