Alf L. Tomtengen

Alf L. Tomtengen, age 90 of Westby, died Thursday, February 22, 2007 Alf L. Tomtengen, age 90 of Westby, died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at his home. He was born on February 11, 1917 in the township of Viroqua to Albert and Ella (Moen) Tomtengen. Alf lived in the town of Coon on the same farm for 88 years and was still an active dairy farmer at the time of his death. He loved his Jersey cows, was proud of his farm and on his 90th birthday, did all of the chores by himself. He was a member of the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and the Coon Prairie Preservation. He is survived by two nephews, Sherman (Barbara) Jacobson and Leland Jacobson; six nieces: Betty (Alf) Erickson (who was Alfs special niece), Edith Lindvig, Myra Schuler, Jeanette (Ronald) Fanta, Marilyn (Ray) Solberg, Beverly (David) Oium; many great-nieces and nephews; six cousins: Otto and Ernest Sordahl, Joseph, Willard and Selmer Bakkestuen, and Myrtle Fagerness; and special neighbors and friends: Bryce and Barbara Brown and Bryce and Linda Pederson and families. In addition to his parents, Alf was preceded in death by four sisters: Effie, Marie, Anna, and Hilda Jacobson; and five nephews: Alf, Ernest, Frederick, David and Larry Jacobson. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 26, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate with burial in the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday after 12:30 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church or the Coon Prairie Preservation. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
