Alfred Bohnenkamp, 92 of DeSoto, died Wednesday evening, October 7, 2015. Alfred Bohnenkamp age 92, was born June 18th, 1923 to Frank and Clementine (Herbers) Bohnenkamp, on the home farm in Bloomington, WI. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7th, 2015 at Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse, WI with his family by his side. Alfred went to school at Saint Mary's Catholic School through the eighth grade and went on to help on the family farm. He was in the Army and Air Force in WWII, stationed in the Philippines. He was a farmer, and a truck driver for many years. December 26th, 1961 Alfred married Leona Swift, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington, WI. They were married for 34 years, until her passing. They enjoyed going to church, going out for dinner, quilting, canning, sewing, traveling, caning chairs and being with Tim, and his family. He loved stopping at his son Tim's house on a daily basis, to see his grandchildren. He never came empty handed, always had candy for the grandchildren, or a fresh baked rhubarb or apple crisp. He was known to the grandchildren as 'Grandpa Fritz.' He will be sadly missed. Alfred is survived by his one son, Tim and his wife Kim of DeSoto, WI. Three Grandchildren: Ashley, Kacie, Katie; and five great grandchildren. Also survived by three stepchildren, Gary, Molly, Linda and their families. He is further survived by his sister, Esther Breuer and sister-in-law, Doris Bohnenkamp; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Leona in 1995; his parents; sisters, Alice Felder, Irene Osterhaus; brother, Vulmar Bohnenkamp; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Felder, Albert Osterhaus, and Alphonse Breuer. In his younger years in Bloomington he was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church. When he moved to DeSoto in 1989 he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSoto, WI, and after its closing, he was lastly a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, Iowa. His faith was very important to him, and he prided himself in leading the rosary. Al spent his last three years at Thornton Manor Nursing Home, in Lansing, Iowa. While there he enjoyed going to church, and saying the rosary. He also enjoyed visits from his son Tim and daughter-in-law Kim; special grandchildren, Kacie, Katie, and Brooklyn; music by his son Tim, working on puzzle books, coffee break, jig saw puzzles, and bingo. A mass of Christian burial with full military rights will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, in Bloomington, WI. Father John Meinholz will be officiating mass. Burial will be at St. Marys Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to mass at the church.
