Alice Borgen

Alice Borgen, age 90, died Thursday, January 7, 2010. Alice M. Borgen, age 90, a loving mother, grandma and great-grandma, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at her home in Madison, Wis. She was born on July 21, 1919 in Vernon County to Anton and Marie (Haugen) Berg, who had both immigrated to Wisconsin from Norway. On April 29, 1939 she was united in marriage to James Borgen and they enjoyed 36 years together. Alice enjoyed collectible birds and could identify them all for you. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage, made several trips to Norway and always stayed in contact with her friends and family living there. She was also a member of The Sons of Norway. Alice treasured her family. She eagerly looked forward to each birth, wedding and family celebration. We all knew wed get a nice card from her for every occasion. Alice is survived by her three children, a son, Richard (Rosie) Borgen of Madison; two daughters, Vivian (John) Birk of Cross Plains and Janice (Ronnie) Volden of Madison. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Kris Rauls, David Birk, Rhonda Thrall, Karen Lee, Katie Schaaf, Brad Birk and Kim Gottschall and 18 great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and two brothers. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Grandma will hold a special place in our hearts forever. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Main Street, (Hwy. 14) in Westby. Pastor Kathy Ingbritsen will officiate with burial in Our Saviors Cemetery, rural Westby. Friends may call at the Vosseteig Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. The Vosseteig Funeral Homes of Viroqua and Westby are serving the family.
