Alice Verene Swiggum

Alice Verene Swiggum, age 89, of rural La Farge, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at her home. She was born September 18, 1931, in Vernon County to the late Byron and Gloy (Randles) Getter. She married Arnty Swiggum on September 16, 1961. Alice enjoyed working in her flower gardens, quilting, playing games and dancing, and having tea parties with her great-granddaughters. She worked at Decomat in Sparta, raised tobacco and farmed. Her final job was at Crazy Franks before retiring in 1998. Survivors include her children: LeeRoy (Fern) Erickson, Allen (Laura) Erickson, Max (Debbie) Erickson, Luther (Jayne) Swiggum, Gloria (Kim) Bankes, Alma (Doug) Reese, Terry (Ann) Swiggum; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; two siblings: Rose Vanchena and Byron “Joe” Getter; her special companion dog, Patrick. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnty Swiggum; her siblings: Malcolm Getter, Eddie Getter, Marilyn Demro, Sharon Springer and Basil Getter; two great-grandchildren: Kendra Jerrett and Conway Jerrett; her daughter-in-law, Rose Erickson. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Alice will be laid to rest at Kickapoo United Lutheran Church Cemetery. Alice’s family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
