Alvilda G. Landis

Alvilda G. Landis, 84, of De Soto died Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Alvilda "Sis" Landis, 84, passed away peacefully at the Bethany St. Joseph nursing home on May 23, 2012. Sis, as most everyone knew her by, was born to Lloyd and Geda (Grahn) Henderson on August 9, 1927, in Baraboo, WI. Sis married Malcolm Orman and they had three daughters; Judy Wommack of Mt. Vernon, MO; Sandra McCollough of Redmond, OR; and Cheryl "Sheri" (Jerry) Torgerson of Victory, WI. Sis and Mal were divorced and she married Merrill "Tud" Landis and they had a daughter, Patricia Landis (Jim) Schobert of Lansing, IA. Sis was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Kathleen Lampman; two grandchildren Dawn Torgerson and LaVern McCollough; and an aunt, Geneva Podwitz. Sis has 10 grandchildren: Judys children Lori, Susan and Lisa; Sheris son Shawn; Sandys children Scott, Mike, Tina and Rob; and Pattys children Matt and Jarrod. She also had 19 great-grandchildren. Mom loved the outdoors, she was a very good horsewoman and was active in the horse project in the 4-H for over 25 years. She also taught ceramics in the 4-H program. She and Tud farmed just outside of Redmound, WI. After they sold the farm mom drove school bus for the De Soto School district for a number of years. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her contribution to teaching all the younger children in 4-H. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Redmound. Pastor Karen Bankes will officiate with burial in Victory Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of De Soto is serving the family.
