Alvin “A.B.” Benjamin Hall Jr., 73, of rural De Soto, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. He was born to Alvin Benjamin Hall Sr. and Emma Jean Lewis on February 23, 1950, in Chewelah, Washington. A.B. served in the U.S. Army as a clerk stationed in Büetigen, Germany. He married Marsha and they had a boy, Alvin Benjamin, they divorced one week later, remarried, and then divorced again. Then he married Drucilla and had another son, John Sheldon. They later divorced. Then he met Phyllis and, they were married and drank too much. So, Alvin decided to get sober, but it was hard because she didn’t want to, and so they then divorced.
A.B. met Diane on a blind date on February 22, 2002, one day before his birthday; it was the best birthday present ever. They hit it off right away and one year later his birthday present was a little late; on February 28, 2003, his son Aiden was born. It was the best birthday present ever! On February 18, 2014, A.B. and Diane were married. He was a contract carpenter in Phoenix, AZ, Houston TX, and De Soto, WI.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; his son, Aiden (fiancée Emily Volden); his sister, Cheryl Tenney; his sons from previous marriages, Alvin Benjamin Hall 1st, and John Sheldon; stepbrothers, Tim McKenzie and Troy; stepsister, Tracy; great-aunt, Stella Lewis; other relatives and friends.
A.B. was preceded in death by his parents; his favorite two uncles, Larry, and Fritz; mother and father-in-law, John and Avie Paulson; sister-in-law Janice Riley; and brother-in-law, James Dean Paulson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in A.B.’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
A Celebration of A.B.’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A.B. will be laid to rest at Walnut Mound Cemetery with full military honors.
