Alvin Merlin Larson

January 31, 1921 — January 20, 2006

Alvin Merlin Larson, age 84 formerly of the Cashton and Westby area, died Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Rolling Hills Nursing Home in Sparta. Alvin was born in Vernon County on January 31, 1921 to Selmer and Alma (Nelson) Larson. He married Hilda P. Johnson on October 8, 1949 in Cashton. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949. He also drove school bus for the Cashton School District for many years, farmed, and hauled cans of milk for the Cashton Coop Creamery. Alvin enjoyed old time polka music, coffee and visiting with people. Alvin is survived by seven children: Susan (Michael) Schroeder of Tomah, Betty (Dale) Hanson of Ontario, Steven (Patt) Larson of Cashton, Sarah (James) VonRuden of Sparta, Nancy Larson of West Bend, Lucille Larson of Madison, and Julie (Mark) Olson of West Bend. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Jessica and Beth Schroeder; Carrie (Jason) Schott and their daughter, Breah; Laura and Melissa Hanson; Brandon, Joshua and Rebecca VonRuden; Christopher Larson-Wruck; and Dustin, Evan, and Quintin Olson; and two half-sisters: Evelyn Hanson of Melvina and Carol Short of Wonewoc. In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda who died in July of 1992; and his daughter Bonnie (Larson) Pohlman who died in May of 1990. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby with Pastor Gary Daines officiating. Burial, with military rites by Syverson-Funk American Legion Post #155 and Westby V.F.W. Post 8021 will be in the Moen Cemetery, rural Cashton. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday after 10:00 a.m. The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
