Amy Lynn Brown, age 38, of Holmen, WI, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on July 31, 2023, at Mayo in Rochester, MN. She went to grade school in Westby, WI, before moving to and graduating from Tomah High School. Amy was a kind, loving woman with a feisty spirit and a love for fun. Amy enjoyed going out on the boat with her husband, where she could relax in the sun and delight in the tranquility of the open water. The beach was a favorite spot of Amy’s. She loved the feel of the warm sand beneath her feet and the soothing sound of the water.
Her work life was dedicated to helping others. Amy attended Dakota County Technical College, where she studied to become a Medical Assistant. This education paved the way for Amy’s career in healthcare. Most recently, Amy began working at Gundersen Lutheran in 2017, in the Pediatrics department and then in Behavioral Health. Her work left an indelible mark on the lives of the countless patients she served. Amy’s colleagues will remember her as a fiery worker that expected more than the status quo.
In October 2017, Amy met Wade and quickly knew he was the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. A few months later, they were engaged and then married on September 22, 2018. They had many adventures together, which included trips to Florida, concerts, festivals, and day trips with the boys. She loved all three of Wade’s children as her own and prioritized spending quality time as a family, praying together, and having a deep relationship with God.
Amy was a woman who lived her life with a profound sense of joy and an appetite for entertainment. She was known for her radiant smile and ability to find happiness in the simplest things. She was the kindest, most caring, and sweetest person but also the fiercest, sassy, spitfire, take-no-crap kind of girl. She was the definition of a fighter. She lived fully and loved deeply. Amy’s life may have been cut short, but her impact on those around her will continue to be felt for many years.
Amy’s legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched through her work and personal life. She was a beacon of hope, a source of strength, and an embodiment of love. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire us all.
Amy is survived by her loving husband, Wade; stepchildren: Elizabeth, Wesley, and Bryce; brothers: Jason (Kris) Mowery, Scott (Kaila) Mowery, and Jeremiah (Caitlin Williams) Mowery with goddaughter, Teagan; sister, Shana (Adam) Steedle; stepfather, Greg Larson; grandmother, “Gram” Lola Jean Zeimet; grandmother, Kay DeMunck; aunt, Debbie McClain; cousins, Danielle (Steve) McNamara and Evelyn, and Aly (Paul) Renshaw; father, Dean (Kitty) Van Riper; sister, Leslie Van Riper; and brothers: Jon Van Riper, Jared (Jess) Swenson, and John (Megan) Kempe.
