Amy Lou E. Onshus, 83, formerly of Westby, WI, passed away on August 6, 2025, in Florida. Born April 24, 1942, in Angola, NY, to Irwin and Doris Campbell, Amy Lou grew up in Chicago, where she graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1960.
In 1972, she married the love of her life, James Onshus, at St. Raphael Cathedral in Madison, WI. Together they built a life full of adventure, retiring to Westby while spending 24 winters as snowbirds in Florida. Their travels took them near and far—Costa Rica, Alaska, Norway, and Mexico among the highlights.
Amy Lou found joy in cooking, cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers, and most of all, in the life she and James shared.
Amy Lou is survived by brothers and sisters, Lyle C. (Gerrie) Campbell, Paul J. (Margaret) Campbell, Jeanne M. (Dominick) Tallarico, Karen M. (Thomas) Michalczyk, Debra A. (Richard) Kopacz, Robert A. Campbell, and Christopher I. Campbell; sisters-in-law, Sandra Onshus, Pat Onshus,; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Amy Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband, James; brother, Frank A., and sister, Rita J. Campbell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Odin “Shine,” Raymond “Thor,” Marian (Hjalmer) Olson, Irene (Chester) Swiggum, Esther “Peggy” (Marvin) Mehlum.
Amy Lou donated her body in honor of giving and helping others. She will be remembered with love for her adventurous spirit and warm heart. Memorials may be made in Amy Lou’s name to the American Cancer Society. The Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby, WI, is assisting the family with private arrangements.
