Ann Elaine (Nelson) Garthus 81, of Mequon, formerly of La Crescent, MN, died Monday, March 19, 2018. Ann was born in 1936 in the Town of Hale, Trempealeau County to Alvin and Esther (Maug) Nelson. She graduated from Whitehall High School in 1954. As a young woman she worked as a switchboard operator for Trane Co. in La Crosse. Ann married Conrad Garthus in 1958 at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, near Osseo Wisconsin. The couple lived in Elkhorn, Westby, WI and La Crescent, MN. They eventually settled in Mequon, WI where they could be closer to family. Ann was an active member of Westby-Coon Prairie Lutheran Church and was a member of Marys Circle. She volunteered at the public school and for the Westby Ski Club. In her free-time she enjoyed reading and baking for her family Ann is survived by her husband Conrad; son Nels (Kerry) Garthus of Port Washington and daughter Tia Garthus of Sun Prairie; two grandchildren, Sydney and Graham Garthus; sisters, Frances Hagen of Osseo and Helen Eid of Osseo; brother, James (Kay) Nelson of Whitehall. She was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Esther and brothers, Jerald and John Nelson. . Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osseo, with Rev. Valerian Ahles officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Schiefelbein Funeral Home in Osseo is assisting the family.
