VIROQUA Ann Hudson, age 86, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Bethel Home and Services in Viroqua. Ann was born on November 2, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. Later her father and mother, Chiles and Lucile (Perssons) Van Antwerp moved to Morehead, Kentucky where her father was principal of Breckenridge High School. Ann was active in chorus, band, and was a cheerleader for the basketball team. After graduation she attended George Peabody College, a division of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she graduated with degrees in elementary and music education. She completed her graduate work at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. After graduation she taught in Tennessee, Washington state, and Illinois, where she met and married the love of her life, Jim Hudson. In 1964 Jim, Ann, and their children moved from Illinois to Richland Center, Wisconsin after purchasing a dairy farm. Jim was also employed as the administrator at Richland Hospital. Ann loved the rural life, especially the farm animals and the beauty of the land. From 1964 until 1984 she was kept busy as a mother, homemaker, dairy farm wife, boarding kennel owner and operator, choir member and director, hospital auxiliary volunteer, charter member and president of the Richland County Friends of Animals. Jim and Ann moved to Viroqua in 1984 where Jim was administrator of Vernon Memorial Hospital. Ann was an active member of the Viroqua United Methodist Church where she served as choir director and choir member, charter member and past president of the Viroqua Community Handbell Choir, and member of the United Methodist Women. She also taught piano and voice privately to children and adults. Ann was instrumental in the development of the Vernon County Humane Society with the purchase of the land where the present building is located and spent countless hours working for the animals benefit. Ann had a life long devotion to her family, her God, the welfare of all animals, and her music. Ann is survived by her children, Wayne, Amy, and granddaughter Alexis. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents and grandparents. Funeral Services for Ann will be Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Viroqua United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM. Pastor Jean Waldron will officiate. Friends may call during a visitation one-hour before the service from 10 to 11 at the Church. In lieu of flowers or plants Memorials may be directed to the Viroqua United Methodist Church Choir in Anns name.
