Arden C. Lothen

Arden Carlyle Lothen, age 77 of Viroqua, Wisconsin died March 13, 2007 Arden Carlyle Lothen, age 77 of Viroqua, Wisconsin died March 13, 2007 from Pneumonia caused by complications of 24 years of Parkinsons Disease. Arden was born in the township of Harmony to Lars and Nancy (Larson) Lothen on September 1, 1929. He was united in marriage to Marlene Helgeson in October of 1956. After farming for a few years, they moved to Viroqua where Arden was employed by the Viroqua Telephone Company for 33 years. Arden was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, served on the Church Council and had been council president. He helped organize and was a charter member of the Coulee Antique Engine Club, was a past Lions Club member having served as president, served on the Viroqua City Council, and also was a charter member of the La Crosse Area Parkinson Support Group. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, tractors and camping. He also enjoyed collecting automobile and gas station memorabilia. Arden is survived by his wife, Marlene of Viroqua; his son, Arvid "Al" Lothen of Westby; his daughter, Naomi (Joe) Boss of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois; his sister, Lilas Moy of Viroqua; brother-in-law, Elman (Evelyn) Helgeson of Genoa; and sister-in-law, Marlene Helgeson of Genoa. He is further survived by six nephews: Harley, Ernie, Arnie, Bradley, and Kelly Helgeson and John Wood; two nieces: Julie Shepherd and Jennifer Riddle; and several cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Armin Helgeson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor Peter Beckstrand will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 7 p.m. on Friday at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 West Decker (Hwy 56) Viroqua and at the church on Saturday after 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers and plants the family requests donations to the charity of the donors choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
