Arlen E. Johnson, age 77 of LaFarge, died Tuesday October 1, 2019. Arlen E. Johnson, age 77, passed away Tuesday October 1, 2019 at Bland Bekkedal Center for Hospice Care in Viroqua. Arlen was born July 26, 1942 in Milwaukee WI to Einer and Helen (Nerod) Johnson. He graduated from Rufus King H.S. in 1960. He attended North Central College in Naperville IL. In 1964 he graduated from Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science. He bought the Ferris Funeral Home in LaFarge in 1965. In 1970 Arlen built the HiLo Chicken Farm. Arlen went to Washington D.C. several times to testify before the appropriations commitees of both houses, for the LaFarge Dam Project as well as the Kickapoo Medical Service, Inc., whereas he was the Vice-President. He was instrumental in starting the LaFarge LIONS Club and was very active in the Hartford LIONS Club receiving the Melvin Jones Award. In 1978 Arlen married DeAnna, on Widby Island WA. They sold the LaFarge Funeral Home in 1980, buying the three Berndt Funeral Homes in Hartford, Hustisford and Juneau. Retiring in 1999, they moved back to the the LaFarge / Viola area where they built their dream home. Retirement was spent hunting, traveling, fishing and gardening. In 2012, he bought a little place on the Mississippi River, where he really enjoyed fishing and friends at camp. He will be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor. Arlen is survived by: his wife DeAnna, one son, 3 daughters, 2 stepsons and one sister. He is further survived by: 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Services for Arlen are Saturday October 5, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Pastor Jorge Ochoa, of the LaFarge United Methodist Church, will officiate. Friends may call during a visitation from 11:00 to 1:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery at 3:30 P.M.
