Volden Arlene Signe (Peterson) Volden, 85, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 25, 2014 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital. Born September 2, 1928, to John and Mina (Iverson) Peterson, Arlene grew up in the Westby-area. Together, they farmed in Vernon County until 1968, when Arlene began her 25-year employment with Vernon Manor as the Laundry Supervisor. In retirement, Arlene and James could be found spending time with their children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Arlenes greatest enjoyment came from sending cards to family and friends for any and all occasions. Never one to forget a birthday or even the most minor accomplishment, Arlene always made those around her feel loved with a heartfelt card. In addition, she kept busy by making baby quilts for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arlenes home was always known as a gathering place for family and friends. Not only did her visitors feel welcomed and always leave her house well-fed, but she had a special gift for making everyone feel special. A devout Christian and member of Vang Lutheran Church, Arlene is survived by five sons and three daughters, Duane (Connie) of Cedar Rapids, IA; Richard (Judy) of Onalaska; Ron (Janice) of Madison; Gary (Kathy) of Viroqua; Mark (Brenda) of Viroqua; Vickie Moore of Viroqua; Judy (Larry) Willger of Viroqua; and Diane (Ron) Christianson of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Elaine Kelly; three sons-in-law, Daryl Iverson, Loren Christianson, and Herb Moore; and two brothers, Arnold and Orvin Peterson. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Westby Coon Prairie Lutheran Church.
