Arthur J. Amundson, age 82 of Viroqua, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 Arthur "Art" J. Amundson, age 82 of Viroqua, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Bethany Riverside in LaCrosse. He was born on November 8, 1924 in Stoughton, Wis. to Arthur and Mabel (Martinson) Amundson. On January 27, 1945 he was united in marriage to Maellyn "Lynne" Parish. Art served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and worked for 31 years with the Soil Conservation Service before retiring in 1979. He was an active member of the Viroqua United Methodist Church as church school teacher, youth leader, camp counselor, lay leader and lay speaker. He was also a member of the Viroqua Lions Club, the Soil Conservation Society of America and had worked with the Viroqua Industrial Association. Art was also a talented woodworker and had built many items for the church. In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by three children: Ronald Arthur (Sherry) Amundson, Jeffrey John (Jan) Amundson, and Kari Ellen (Taylor) Collins; four grandchildren: Cyrus Lee, Sarah Mae (Travis), Joshua A.J., and Laura Ellen; one great-grandson, Noah Alexander; four siblings: Richard and William Amundson of Stoughton, Gloria Chadbourn of Dallas, TX, and Louise Schmoll of Bloomfield, CT; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Viroqua United Methodist Church in Viroqua. Pastor Ethan Larson will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Stoughton, WI on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the Viroqua United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Pine Lake Camp in Westfield, WI. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
