Arthur “Austin” Winsor, age 85, of Gays Mills went to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Austin was born on June 4, 1936, to Missionary parents, Earl and Mary Winsor, in Belgian Congo, Africa. At an early age, the family came to Wheaton, IL where he grew up an avid Cubs fan. Packers won out though for football. He attended Wheaton College for three years and then transferred to Stout University in Menomonie, WI where he met the love of his life, Judy. They married soon after and moved to Green Bay for one semester of teaching. He worked for the railroad for the summer and then they moved to Gays Mills and taught for 38 years. He started the Industrial Arts program, taught Math, Algebra, Geometry, Tech Ed, and Night Classes. He was the assistant principal for a short time, and director of lighting and stage crew for musicals. The Industrial Arts class of 1965 made the “Wooden Car” that he enjoyed and still has. He was involved in part of the village board at one time and was a member of the Southwest Wisconsin Vocational-Technical Institute Advisory Committee, and the fire chief for Gays Mills. He was deeply involved with his church. He was the treasurer for the Maple Ridge Bible Church for many years as well as the adult Sunday school teacher and many other roles. After retirement, he enjoyed family gatherings, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were a delight to him. He was a great role model to all he came in contact with. He did maintenance and was second cook for a few weeks in the summer at Crescent Lake Bible Camp. He was on the camp board for many years, enjoying the camp multiple times a year. He had a heart for telling others about his Lord and Savior. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith (Knott). They married January 30, 1960. They have four children, Elizabeth (Dean) Nankey, Muscoda; Carolyn Winsor, Gays Mills; Earl (Denise) Winsor, Gays Mills; and Barbara Timblin, Muscoda; ten grandchildren, Kevin (Heather), Susan, Laura, Julie, Arthur (Sarah), Mary (Brian), Adam, Leland (Brenna), Emily (Eliot), Andrew (Emily), 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Faith (Gerald) Haddock; sister-in-law, Elaine (Merlin) Johnson-Hess; brothers-in-law, Wayne (LaVerne) Knott and Earl (Martha) Knott; numerous nieces and nephews; and childhood friend, John Corbin and his wife, Mary.
