Avalon Paulson, 88, of Gays Mills, died, Sunday, July 1, 2018. Avalon Mae Avie Paulson, age 88 died Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Soldiers Grove Health Services. Avie was born on December 15, 1929 in Bell Center, WI to Lynn and Mae Belle (Coleman-Whiteaker) Bell. She was united in marriage to John Alvin Paulson on June 27,1946 at the Mt Sterling Lutheran Church. Avalon came from a family of thirteen and together, she and John had ten children of their own. Avie loved her church. She was a loving individual, not only as the mother of ten, who also worked for 18years before retiring from Advance Transformer in Boscobel, but still finding time to care for convalescing siblings in need and any family member in want of anything. She volunteered at Senior Meals in Crawford Co. to local food pantries as well. But, Avie found time to have fun, also. She was a former Applefest Ambassador in Gays Mills and was always a participant in the activities. She loved baking and was famous for her scratch apple pies, right down to rendering her own lard for the crusts. Her fried chicken, her baked beans and her donuts were equally well known. Avalon is survived by her children: John and Jean Paulson, Cheryl and Mike McCormick, Sue and Ron Hayden, Diane and AB Hall, Marcia and Terry Stevenson, Mark Paulson, Mari-Lee and Terry Beardsmore, and Scott and Joan Paulson; 17 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; two brothers: Richard and Gary Bell; and three sisters: Joyce Moore, Nancy Mickelson, and Linda Burkum. Avalon was preceded in death by her husband, John; two children: Jimmy and Jan; her mother and father; and many brothers and sisters. Also preceding her was grandson Daniel Paulson, age 45, whom died on June 11, 2018. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills. Wayne Goplin will officiate with burial in the Gays Mills Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Kickapoo Creekside in Readstown. Friends may call at the Funeral Home from 10am till the time of service at 11. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church in Gays Mills, the Ocooch Mountain Rescue Squad, or to the North Crawford Rescue Squad.
