Avis U. Hooverson

Avis U. Hooverson, age 93, of Viroqua and formerly of Soldiers Grove, passed away Friday, July 23, 2021, at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. She was born May 4, 1928, in Ohio to Lafe and Thelma (Hurst) Van Fleet. She graduated from Readstown High School and married Tell M. Hooverson Jr. on March 17, 1948. The couple took over the family farm in the Pine Knob area and farmed until their retirement. In 1998, she moved to Viroqua where she was currently residing. She was a wonderful sewer and quilter, loved to dance and play cards, was a fantastic baker, and was very involved with Kickapoo United Lutheran Church. Survivors include her children, Twila Hooverson of Memphis, Tennessee, Gail (James Kaminski) Egan of Portage, and Jeffrey (Mary) Hooverson of Viroqua; two grandchildren, Lydia and Ella Hooverson; her sisters, Delores (Paul) Felton, Sharon (Roger) Clark, and Dixie (Howie) Chambers; several nieces and nephews. Avis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tell Hooverson; her brothers, Dwight (Dorothy) Van Fleet and Larry (Donna) Van Fleet. In lieu of flowers, donations to Kickapoo United Lutheran Church appreciated. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of the service. A reception at the funeral home will follow the service. Burial will be in the South Kickapoo Cemetery.
