Beatrice A. Hillbo

Beatrice A. Hillbo, 93 of Viroqua, died Saturday, October 10, 2010. Beatrice A. "Bea" Hillbo Beatrice A. Hillbo, 93, of Viroqua passed away on October 9, 2010, at her home. She was born in Soldiers Grove, WI, on December 22, 1916, the only child, of Soren and Millie (Erickson) Nundahl. She was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Westby and on June 22, 1940, she married Arvid R. Hillbo at Our Saviors. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1946. Bea was a graduate of Westby High School, Vernon County Teachers College, UW-La Crosse and attended Winona State University. For more than 35 years she taught in rural schools in Vernon and Crawford counties, retiring from Viroqua Area Schools in 1982. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua, where she sang in the choir, served on the Council and was an active church member. Other memberships include Vernon County Retired Educators, Vernon Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Vernon County Historical Society. She also volunteered her time and talents in many ways. Bea is survived by her two children, Judi (Dave) Konop of La Crosse and Trygve (Barbara) of Madison; four grandchildren, Alec Hillbo of Phoenix, AZ, Griffin Hillbo of Minneapolis, Ryan Konop (Gina Prange) of Victory, WI, and Gina Konop (fiance Shawn Miller) of La Crosse. She is further survived by one niece, Elsie (Wayne) Olson of Houston, MN, and her family, as well as cousins and many friends. In addition to her husband, parents, and in-laws, she was preceded in death by her special Hoffland and Methum cousins and many friends. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are suggested to Southwest Prairie Church Cemetery Fund, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Endowment Scholarship Fund or a charity of the donors choice. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The Rev. Lindsay Paul Jordan and The Rev. Margaret Eiben Hoversten will officiate with burial in Southwest Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
