Bette was born in Westby on October 24, 1927 to Markey and Inga (Leum) Galstad. She graduated from Westby High School. After High School she worked at Carys Jewelry Store in Westby. On December 31, 1946 she married Harry Jacobson in Westby at the Coon Prairie Lutheran Church. After marriage they made they home on a hobby farm near Westby. Bette was the typical housewife. She never worried about what she had as she was more concerned that she always had warm food and clean clothes for her family. The hobby farm meant that every year there would be a couple acres of tobacco to raise. She did the majority of the work and there was never a negative comment heard. For a time, she also used their station wagon to act as a school bus to bring kids in the area to and from the Smith School. In her later years she would reminisce about that and how much she enjoyed being around the children. After Harrys death, Bette moved to the Nordic Village Apartments in Westby. Bette is survived by her children: Sharon (Lee) Wrede, Cheryl Jacobson, Scott (Dianne) Jacobson, Steven (Jenny) Jacobson and Charles (Shari) Jacobson; sisters: Ann (Bill) Welk and Karen Ritchey; and seven grandchildren.
