Berna Monson, age 102 of Viroqua died Sunday, December 12. Berna (Limoseth) Monson, age 102, of Viroqua died on December 12, 2010 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. Berna was born to Bernard (Bernt) and Anna (Stendalen) Limoseth on July 25, 1908. She graduated from Westby High School in 1925 and thereafter from the Wausau Business Institute. On November 14, 1936, she married Malvin C. Monson who passed away on April 20, 1958. Berna was a Legal Secretary in the offices of Attorneys C.W. Graves and Martin Gulbrandsen and thereafter with Attorney M.N. Daffinrud, all of Viroqua. She was later employed as Deputy Vernon County Treasurer and as the first Vernon County Abstractor until her retirement in 1975. Berna was a faithful member of Franklin Lutheran Church and devoted a considerable amount of time in assisting in the translation of the original church minutes from Norwegian to English in order to preserve those records for future generations of church members. She was an avid reader and prior to entering the Bethel Home was an enthusiastic follower of Duke University basketball. Berna is survived by her son, Gary Monson of Viroqua; granddaughter, Vanessa Monson of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Monson of Durham, North Carolina; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Berna was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Karl Monson, step-sons: Donald Monson, Duane Monson, and Roger Monson; and her sisters: Mabel Swiggum, Edna Volden, Olga Limoseth and Palma Iverson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Franklin Lutheran Church with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to the time of services. The Rev. Peter Beckstrand will officiate with burial in the Franklin Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Franklin Lutheran Church or the recipient of the donors choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is assisting with arrangements.
