Bert "John" Gordon Jr.

Bert “John” Gordon, Jr., age 82, of Mauston, formerly of La Farge, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 31, 2022. He was born August 18, 1939, to the late Bert and Kathryna (Winchel) Gordon in La Farge. Bert’s first job was at the La Farge sawmill as a carriage rider which he enjoyed. While working at the sawmill, Bert met the love of his life, Shirley Beaty, through his friends. They later married in 1959, in West Lima. After leaving the sawmill and doing some logging work, Bert and Shirley moved to Yuba where they raised their family. After moving, Bert started to work at the Ammunition Plant and was a dairy farmer on their home farm until his retirement. Bert enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, going to auctions with the boys, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and happily collected small antique tractors. He had a great passion for horses; whether it was horseback riding on the Richland Center Wagon Train or attending horse pulls. Bert loved to go to the rodeo whenever it came to town and attend antique tractor pulls. He will be truly missed for always being there for everyone; he was the person you could call and talk to whenever you needed it. Bert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley; his children: Sherry (Joseph) Schiller of Mount Tabor, Sherrill Gordon of Grove Springs, MO, and John (Janet) Gordon of Mauston; his grandchildren: Heather Schiller, Jason (Nicole) Schiller, Jennifer Schiller, Britniya Gordon, and Tati Gordon; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Odean Lalatta. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 517 Grayside Avenue, Mauston, WI 53948. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until time of service. The family welcomes everyone to stay for lunch after the funeral service.
