Betty G. (Lucas) Hanson, age 90 of Viroqua, died Monday, March 10, 2008 Betty G. (Lucas) Hanson, age 90 of Viroqua, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Bethel Home in Viroqua. She was born July 13, 1917 to Keith "Pookie" and Alice (Axlen) Lucas. She married Reuben J. Hanson on May 29, 1941. She was secretary for the Northern Wisconsin Tobacco Corporation from 1950 until 1963. Betty and her husband, Reuben owned and operated the A&W Root Beer Drive-In from 1947 until 1979, and also Lucas Jewelers, now Biederman Jewelers, from 1963 until 1974. J. W. Lucas, Bettys grandfather pioneered the jewelry business in downtown Viroqua in 1896. Betty was very active in the community. She was a member of the Viroqua United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and V.F.W. Auxiliary.Betty is survived by two sons: Ronald (Ellie) Hanson of Cedarburg, WI and Fountain Hills, AZ; James (Tracy) Hanson of Viroqua WI; four grandchildren: Chad of Madison, WI; Matthew (Dana) of Issaquah, WA; Lucas of Tempe, AZ; Megan of Viroqua WI; two great-grandchildren: Darwin and Shea of Issaquah, WA; one sister-in-law: Ida (Hanson) Helgeson, of Sparta; five nieces.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reuben on August 7, 1989; sister: Idelle Buros of Arizona in 2007; sister-in-law: Mary Hanson; brothers-in-law: M. J. "Moe" Hanson, Harlan Helgeson, and Orville "Fritz" Buros. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Viroqua. Pastor Ethan Larson will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, March 14, 2008 from 4-6 p.m. at the Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home, 123 W. Decker Street (Hwy 56) in Viroqua. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to Viroqua V.F.W. Auxiliary or the Bethel Home in Viroqua. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
