Beverly “Becky” Tunks Winters

March 23, 1930 — March 4, 2024

Beverly “Becky” Jean (Dorschied) Tunks Winters, “The Entertainer,” age 93, of La Farge, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024. She was born on March 23, 1930, to Harold and Carol (Chambers) Dorschied on Salem Ridge, but grew up on Ma and Pa’s Park which was very important to her. She married George Tunks, Jr. on June 3, 1950, at the Dell United Methodist Church. They were married sixteen years and had three daughters: Barbara, Patti, and Cara.

George passed away at the age of 40, suffering a heart attack, on October 21, 1966. Becky was taught at that time to be strong, resilient, and to stick together, and the amount of sadness you feel is the amount of love you feel; and that is a good thing. Becky was always thinking of someone to help in any way that might be the one thing that would change their life forever. Her daughters will always remember that she loved them enough for two parents after their father’s passing.

She started playing the accordion when she was 13 years old, which her brother Bill brought back for her from out West. She said she played out in the barn a lot due to her family’s requests. Then, after a while Becky learned to play the piano, but she could never read a note; it was all by ear. She could hear a song on the radio and sit down and play it on the piano. It brought her so much joy, but it brought others even more joy. She played at LarryFest for 26 years with The In-Laws, including Virgil Sebranek and John Pesik, Sr., and also travelled to nursing homes in the area. She also played with Bill Dorschied and Kenny Hatfield at many events.

Becky is survived by her daughters, Cara (Jeff) Johnson and Patti (Bernie) Miller; grandchildren: Tyler (Amanda) Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Jordon Johnson, Brandon Hysel, Craig (Ashley) Hysel, Tracy Mislivecek, Tammie (Tim) McCune, and Rick (Lori) Mislivecek; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, Aiden, Shaye, Chloe, Erica, Gabe, Kate, Cameron, and a baby due in September; and many nieces and nephews that she considered children. Becky is further survived by her life-long friend, Bonnie Daines Shird.

“…a time to weep and a time to mourn and a time to dance.” Mom is the happiest she has ever been with her family and friends that went before her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Jr. Tunks; her daughter, Barbara; her parents; her siblings: William “Bill” (Jo-Anne) Dorschied, Doris (John Sr.) Pesik, Darlene (James “Bud”) Copus, Joyce (Virgil) Sebranek; and many other in-laws.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the La Farge Community Center. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. There will be a time for story sharing and lunch after the service.
