Blaine L. Haugen

Blaine L. Haugen, 87 of Westby, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Blaine was born on October 14, 1926 on a farm near Melvina, WI to Selmer and Nora Haugen. He married Ardyce Erlandson on June 30, 1950. In 1945 he was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a clerk at the Nuremberg trials in Germany. He returned to Westby to work on the family dairy farm where they also raised tobacco for many years. In 1976 he retired from dairy farming and began working for a farm implement dealer. In 1988 he retired to travel, golf and spend time with his grandchildren. Blaine and Ardyce were fortunate to visit relatives in Norway 5 times, other European countries and every state in the U.S., Blaine was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He is survived by this wife of 63 years Ardyce; daughter, Bonnie (Dan Kaiser) of Shoreview, MN; son, Arvid (Laura) of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; grandchildren: Dawn, Amy (Nelson), Erika and Kristin; great-grandchild: Jessica; sisters, Lorraine Everson, Stella Hohlfeld, Charlotte Kirkeeng and Darlene Williams; he is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Archie and Roland. Funeral service will be Monday, June 2nd, 2014 at 11:00 am at Bethany Lutheran Church in Esofea, with Pastor Pete Beckstrand officiating. Interment with full Military honors will follow in the Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday June 1st, 2014 from 4-6 pm at the Vosseteig Funeral Home (708 State Highway 27, Westby), and will continue on Monday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Bland Bekkedal Hospice Center for the wonderful care and support they provided for Blaine and his family. In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials to the Bland Bekkedal Hospice Center or to the Bethany Lutheran Church of Esofea The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Westby is serving the family.
