Blaine R. Welch, 84 of Viroqua, died peacefully at home from cancer on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. He was born on September 30, 1925 in DeSoto, Wis. to Leo and Ida Mae (Powell) Welch. He graduated from Viroqua High School in 1944, and served in the Navy from March 1944 until June 1946. He then attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. He returned to Viroqua and lived with the Kellogg family and worked for Kellogg Electric. He later owned his own business, Welch Electric. Blaine spent over 60 years working as an electrician and he was very committed to his work. On July 16, 1950 he married Janet Olson at the Viroqua United Methodist Church. Blaine loved to fish and the highlight of his fishing adventures was a trip to Canada with his two sons and two grandsons. He loved his family. He is survived by his wife Janet; three children: Sandra of Huntington Beach Calif; David (Julie) Welch of Viroqua and their children: Kelly (Michael) Dupasquier and Maggie and Ben; Michael (Rhonda) Welch of Viroqua and their children, Heather (Robert) Bahillo and Brent; one great-granddaughter, Macy; brother, William (Maxine) Welch of Watertown, Wis.; nieces; nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; Bernetta, Norma, and Lyle. Blessed be our memory of Blaine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Viroqua United Methodist Church. Pastor Ethan Larson will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be made to Vernon Memorial Hospice, Viroqua United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice. The Vosseteig-Larson Funeral Home of Viroqua is serving the family.
