Blanche Garrity, age 87 of Janesville and formerly Westby, died Sunday May 27, 2018. Blanche Sharon Loretta (Peterson), 87, passed away at Our House Senior Living in Janesville, WI, on May 27, 2018. Blanche was born on January 22, 1931 to Elmer and Nora (Bjornstad) Peterson of Westby, WI. She was baptized and confirmed at Coon Prairie Lutheran Church in Westby. She attended Smith, Clockmaker, and Oium country schools, also Westby Elementary, then graduated from Westby High School in 1949. She moved to Chicago in 1951 and was employed by Armour Co. of Chicago in the purchasing and billing department. She then moved to Columbia, South Carolina where she was united in marriage to Master Sgt. E8 F.J. Garrity Jr. of Chicago, IL on July 22, 1955 and later divorced. She moved to Harlingten, TX and was employed by Tupperware Co. and Ramada Inn at the front desk. Blanches hobbies included bowling, golf, and floral gardens. Blanch also had a lifetime membership in the Westby Area Historical Society, and had an opportunity to travel worldwide as a military wife. Blanche is survived by her son, Scott Garrity (Laura Myers and her son Chandler Barilla) of Edgerton, WI; three grandsons: Michael (Mae) Garrity of Edgerton, WI, Steven (Shelby) Garrity of Janesville, WI. And Tyler Garrity of Janesville, WI; four great grandchildren: Shaelin, Anhya, Granger, and Zachery. Blanche is survived by three sisters: Natalie (Raymond) Chudej of Corpus Christi, TX, Janice (Jack) Martine of Racine, WI, and Verona Peterson of Janesville, WI; special nephew, Mike Kingslien and his wife Ann, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Blanche was preceded in death by her husband F.J in 2003; her parents; three brothers: Arthur Peterson, Orville Peterson, and Lester Peterson; three sisters: Evelyn Zinn, Adah Severson, and Darlene Kingslien. Graveside services will be held at 11:30am on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Coon Prairie Cemetery. Pastor Julie Wollman will officiate. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given to the Westby VFW or Westby Historical Society.
