Bruce E. Volden

Bruce E. Volden, age 73, passed away June 28, 2024. He was born October 22, 1950, to Eugene and Mabel (Anderson) Volden.

Bruce was a graduate of Westby High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s from UW La Crosse in Political Science. Following college, Bruce served in the United States Navy.

Bruce's professional life was characterized by his role as the US Postmaster in Oakdale, Wisconsin. In this position, he became a respected fixture in the community, known for his reliability and the courteous manner in which he approached his responsibilities.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Bruce was an avid card player and gambler, passions that showcased his strategic thinking and his love for a well-played hand. He found joy in the challenge of the games and the camaraderie of playing with friends. Bruce's interest in politics never waned, and he remained an active participant in discussions and a keen observer of the political landscape throughout his life.

He is survived by his brothers, Thomas Volden of Moorhead, MN, Mark (Linda) Volden of Viroqua, WI and Marlo Volden of Viroqua, WI, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Mabel, his sister and brother-in-law, Rachel (Donald) Syvertsen, brother, Michael Volden and an infant brother, Stephen Volden.

Memorial services for Bruce will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Vang Lutheran Church in Westby. Pastor Alyssa Weaver will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
