Bruce Edwin Woods

December 5, 1953 — March 7, 2024

Mr. Bruce Edwin Woods passed away in his home in the Dell area of Vernon County on March 7, 2024. Bruce was 70 years old. He was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin on December 5, 1953, to Burnil and Shirley (Davison) Woods.

Bruce graduated from Westby High School, working on his father’s mink ranch until operations ceased in 1972. Later he and his wife, Kathleen Hilton Adams Woods, ran his grandfather’s dairy farm, in partnership with his father. He and Kathy were married on April 2, 1983, and lived on the farm together for 37 years. Bruce obtained his commercial driving license (CDL). He and Kathy formed a business, B & K Trucking. As an owner-operator, he hauled lumber in Wisconsin for several years, including lumber and pallets made in Amish sawmills.

Bruce was predeceased in death by his parents; his wife, Kathy; his beloved step-grandson, Bradley Adams; and his sister-in-law, Robin Woods.

He was a loving and devoted son, brother, and uncle. Surviving are his siblings: Diana (Robert) Poulson of Florida, David (Peggy) of La Farge, Timothy of Endeavor, Wisconsin, and William of Indiana and nieces and nephews: Michelle (Brandon) Brueggeman, Catelyn Woods O’Neil, Matthew Woods, Corey Woods, and their children and grandchildren.

He was a loving and devoted husband, stepfather, and grandfather to Kathy’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bruce is survived by Kathy’s children: John (Barbara) Adams, Janet (Steve) Holey, and Ken (Renee) Adams; step-grandchildren: Cordell Adams, Jeff (Tabitha) Holey, and Becca (Brandon) Dunnum; step-great-grandchildren: Abigail and Orlando Holey, Hendrick and Lee Dunnum, and Bradley’s son, Gabriel Adams; and brother and sister-in-law, Nancy (Wayne) Pautsch and Chester Jr (Linda) Hilton.

The coffee pot was always on in his and Kathy’s home. Neighbors, family, and friends felt welcome to drop by at any time for a cup, served with laughter and stimulating conversation. These times continued even after Kathy’s passing. There were times of camping, having purchased a pop-up camper and a boat for waterskiing during the early years. There were snowmobile runs and winter fires down in the pastureland, with hot dogs and s’mores (courtesy of Kathy). Bruce was an avid and competitive card game player with family and friends.

We, Bruce’s family, would like to thank his dear Amish neighbors, for their care and friendship over the years, especially Allan and Miriam Miller, Andy and Bertha Hershberger, and Lester and Ellen Mullet.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Vosseteig Funeral Home in Westby. Pastor George Shick will officiate. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Bruce will be laid to rest at Dell Cemetery.
